Soccer-Angola promise to be ready for 2010 Nations Cup
LUANDA - The four new stadiums being built by Angola for the 2010 African Nations Cup finals will be ready at least six months before the event, government officials told the state-run ANGOP news agency on Tuesday.
Angola is building new venues in the capital and provincial towns of Benguela, Cabinda and Lubango to host the 16-team tournament.
Candida Narciso, who heads a parliamentary commission overseeing preparations, said the venues would be completed in good time to test facilities before the event, traditionally hosted at the start of the year.
Angola plan a 40,000-seater stadium at Luanda's university complex and 20,000-seater stadiums in the three other venues.
The 2010 Nations Cup finals in Angola will come six months before the first-ever World Cup finals in Africa, which are being hosted by South Africa.
The next Nations Cup finals are in Ghana next January.
